The good news is that I’m down to zero packs a day. The bad news is that the Squaw Peak road was not climbable yesterday. OK you’re right, this doesn’t qualify as
bad news, but
sad. Two days ago, Squaw Peak road was blanketed with perfectly compressed snow, which made it climbable up to the lookout point, but I was up to two packs. So what does this all mean? Check the pictures for the answer.

The air quality in the UC has been horrible. We have an inversion layer above us that is trapping smog in the valley. Riding outside two days ago was like smoking two packs of cigarettes, not that I know what it’s like to smoke two packs of cigarettes. Just saying. Yesterday a weather system moved in and helped open up the layer so the air quality wasn’t as bad, hence the ride was like smoking only one pack of cigarettes.
By the way, I discovered yet another use for
CarboRocket: Antifreeze. While my fingers, toes, and other parts froze during the ride, my
CarboRocket remained fluid. Amazing.
Today, snow is dropping from the sky like you would expect at the end of December. Sad news, I don’t think the ride will be great. Good news, the smoking will be minimal.

I'm bummed that I'll be missing out on all this powder as well as the New Year's ride up Squaw. I guess hanging out in Costa Rica for the next week will have to suffice.
